Hello guys! I have the privilege of posting a story by a good friend (madam sharp mouth, Bukky) of mine on this blog. She will like your encouragement. So please let’s show it. It’s the short story that accompanies this article… (We apologise if the post is long.)
“Money never starts an idea; it is the idea that starts the money.” – William J. Cameron
Something funny happened sometime ago, I was in the car with my dad and his driver in Lagos. We were around Lekki and Mr Waliji (the driver) asked a funny question…
He said in Yoruba but, I will write it in English, “you know the big boats on water, how come they don’t sink? It’s understandable for the small ones not to sink but, the big ones that carry cars and everything. They just stand strong on the water.”
My dad said that’s where physics comes in and education in general. He further went on by asking him a question. He said, “WHAT DO YOU THINK ALSO SUSTAINS THE AIRPLANES THAT FLY? HOW COME THEY DON’T FALL TO THE GROUND? ITS AERODYNAMICS AND YOU KNOW THESE THINGS, BY LEARNING.”
Mr Waliji sneered and concluded that, “it’s not any physics. WHITE PEOPLE ARE WITCHES AND THEY HAVE *OGUN BURUKU*. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT, THEY USE THEIR OWN JUJU FOR GOOD THINGS. BUT TO SAY ITS PHYSICS IS TO ACT OBLIVION TO THE WITCH POWERS THE WHITES POSSESS.”
My dad and I laughed so hard. Not so much at what Mr Waliji said but, at the way he said it with so much conviction. My dad told him, “Don’t say such in public. You will be laughed at. If they are witches, we also have witches in Nigeria yet they have not been able to use their powers to do something useful. It’s all about having ideas. The white people are very good when it comes to that. They have good ideas and are prepared to die for the ideas.” He further explained that, “The airplanes we so much enjoy now are only in existence because someone had an idea. He pursued the idea for a while and abandoned it when he wasn’t making much progress. Then the Wright brothers took up from where he left it. In Nigeria, we have so many ideas that might get started but, get abandoned and nobody takes them up. In Nigeria, we are not ready to die for our ideas. We don’t even get support but, for the whites, they don’t mind wasting some lives in other to bring those ideas to life.” He concluded by saying, “IDEAS RULE THE WORLD. WITH AN IDEA THAT IS PURSUED, YOU BECOME SO RICH EVEN WITHOUT MONEY.” That struck me and made me remember something my pastor said some time ago
.
“Ideas are like babies. When a baby is crying in church, you carry the baby out. In the same way, when you have an idea, take it out and start working on it. Don’t let it die.” ~ Pastor Graceman Aduloju
I hope you have an idea or ideas. If you don’t, I hope you start thinking of something. Our thinking faculty is one of the greatest gifts we have and it is more than enough to lead your life. From what my dad said, I deduced we also need perseverance, hard work and personal conviction and stubbornness in addition to having ideas. Because without those, your ideas will just be ideas. They will never be ideas that will produce something meaningful and make an impact in the world. Are we too young to have ideas? I will say no because if you are not too young to eat, wear clothes, then you are definitely not too young to have ideas and turn them into things you can point out and say, “that is mine. I created that.”
What are your ideas?

“BE MORE; HAVE MORE AND DO MORE. Would you like to have a more successful life? Would you like to be more? Would you like to spend your life doing something which is more worthy? SUCCESS THEY SAY “IS NOT BUILT IN A DAY” BUT, YOU CAN Take a step of change that would change your life forever.” … “Foluke why are you complaining about everything when you are at home doing nothing; you want money to walk into your life. HOW? You are praying because, there are no laws and God is a magician. WHY? You are not ready for a change because if you are, you will move out of your circle.”
Foluke and I were friends. We lived together. I took a step of looking for a job though I was faced with challenges but, my friend would rather believe in money making miracle. I told her, “if you will be successful and have a good life not only have money, YOU MUST COME OUT OF THE USUAL AND BEGIN TO DO THE UNSUAL. DO MORE TO SUCCEED IN LIFE AND LET YOUR LIFE MAKE OTHERS FEEL THEY CAN DO IT IF YOU CAN.” … for years, my friend was only doing two things which were, ‘watch TV and sleep’. Still, she wanted more out of life forgetting “SUCCESS ONLY COMES TO THOSE THAT DARE TO GO AFTER IT.” She wanted to live a better life, get married to the most current guy. But, I often asked her because I couldn’t understand it myself: “HOW CAN ALL THESE BE POSSIBLE? CAN A MAGNETIC PROPERTY BE ATTRACTED TO A PLASTIC PROPERTY? When you are ready for the good things in life, you must reach out. So my friend, if you stay as you are, you will remain where you are.” … “What do I do Titi?” Foluke asked.
“It’s simple. CHANGE YOUR HABIT. Cultivate good and positive habits constantly. A MAN’S HABIT DEFINES HIS CHARACTER AND BEHAVIOUR. HIS HABITS ALSO DETERMINES WHAT HE WILL GET IN LIFE AND WHERE HE ENDS UP IN LIFE. The difference between the rich and the poor is a function of how they behave; the principles they imbibe; the habits they practice. There is a saying that, ‘WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING CONSTANTLY FOR TWENTY-ONE DAYS BECOMES YOUR HABIT.’ So Foluke look inside, let go of the habits that has drawn you back for years and embrace positive change because, success is at the tips of your fingers. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME, BE CREATIVE AND THINK. Time is money. WE WILL ALWAYS WANT MORE IN LIFE AND WHEN WE DO, WE SHOULD REMEMBER MORE IS REQUIRED OF US.”
